Decades before the book "Eat, Pray, Love" was popular; my heart led me to explore the sights, sounds and flavours of Italy. I had only just arrived in Rome, when this hot blooded Roman, astride a smoky grey Ducati, cruised up beside me and asked me to the movies. Three days later he proposed over a pizza and three coins in a fountain later I was living in Rome, my head in the clouds, not speaking a word of Italian but knowing that this is where I should be. The rest is history. In 2010 I spent the winter in Bologna apprenticing with some of the finest Gelato Masters in the world. Now, more than three decades later, with a Master Gelato Chef training under my belt, Alessandro and I are pursuing our dreams. Our mission at Stella Luna Gelato Café is to create a space where everyone belongs; where children can enjoy a freshly handcrafted gelato with their grandparents, alongside friends who are mingling over a glass of wine. Where couples can stare dreamily into each other's eyes in the company of folks who’ve been married for decades, enjoying a hearty plate of artisanal cheeses. We dreamt of creating The Village Piazza, where everyone could gather to enjoy the simple pleasures of life! Ours is love story infused with passion - for both our family, our roots and our business.
The irony of it all is that I grew up on a dairy farm! The Stella Luna story in a nut shell is this: Dairy Farmer + Sexy Italian Guy = Gelato! While living in Rome together, Alessandro and I would spend weekends astride the Ducati, heading through the mountains and along the coast, on our quest for the "Ultimate Gelato". We knew what a good gelato should taste like; what kind of consistency it should have, when it was fresh and when it wasn't. We knew that with the right decorative topping; it could become a work of art. But we wanted to make gelato from simple and wholesome ingredients rather than with pre-measured powdered mixes. So in 2010, I packed my bags and returned to Italy - the cradle of gelato making, to attend the most reputable and successful artisan gelato training centre in the world, and train under Italy's finest Gelato Masters. The Stella Luna secret is the art of meticulously balancing recipes and paring foods in the freshness and the quality of the ingredients. Our products are prepared on site, from scratch, every day. Each flavour has its own unique recipe and is made using only the freshest, premium ingredients, without any artifical colour or flavour. We infuse the passion and pride we share for well prepared food into each recipe.
